Back then comics were actually interesting, because, in my opinion, The foundation of DC and Marvel Comics wasn't "finished", therefore Writers could make their own stories without having to link them to the top dogs. One of the best exemples being Watchmen, by Alan Moore, which created an array of characters that are really cool but still feel human.
